Does the Czech Republic accept refugees?
Yes, but please note: If a person wants to obtain temporary protection in the Czech Republic without having secured accommodation, they can only submit such an application at KACPU in Ostrava. Choosing a city of residence in the Czech Republic is only possible if one rents accommodation independently. This is important because the application for temporary protection must include a contract for accommodation with an officially certified signature of the property owner or the relevant person providing the accommodation.
Can temporary protection be obtained in the Czech Republic with a visa from another country?
No, unfortunately, the Czech Republic does not grant temporary protection if you already had such status in another country. This also applies to situations where a person had a long-term residence permit in another country as of February 24. However, if you have relatives in the Czech Republic, you can apply for family reunification. It should be noted that there have been cases where Ukrainians, contrary to these rules, have received temporary protection in the Czech Republic after staying in other countries. This status was granted after appealing to the court and obtaining a favorable decision.
Can you travel outside the Schengen zone with a temporary protection visa?
Ukrainians with temporary protection visas with “MULT” entries can travel both within and outside the Schengen zone, according to the Ministry of the Interior. However, temporary protection does not automatically grant the right to stay outside the Schengen zone (without a valid residence permit in that country), so it is always advisable to check the entry conditions.
Is it mandatory for Ukrainian children to attend school in the Czech Republic?
Yes. All children are subject to compulsory education. This applies to children up to 15 years old, which means up to the 9th grade (included).
Is the tolerance visa equal to the temporary protection visa?
No. The tolerance visa and the temporary protection visa entail different rights and obligations. For example, to work with a tolerance visa, you need to obtain a special work permit. However, with a temporary protection visa, no such permit is required as access to the labor market is free.
Why is it necessary to constantly indicate the place of residence? How does changing the place of residence affect the extension of the temporary protection visa?
Registering the place of residence is a duty for every foreigner in the Czech Republic. Changing the address does not affect the extension of temporary protection. Czech laws only require foreigners to notify the OAMP (Department of Asylum and Migration Policy) about this change within three working days.
I have a Canadian visa. Will it affect temporary protection in the Czech Republic?
It will not affect it under two conditions: Czech temporary protection was obtained first, and the Canadian CUAET visa was obtained before February 10, 2023.
I applied for a tolerance visa and have been waiting for several months without a response. Whom can I contact in this case?
You can simply go to the Department of Asylum and Migration Policy (OAMP) with your questions. Alternatively, you can call the Ministry of the Interior's hotline. The police can inform you by phone whether a decision has been made, but they are not authorized to disclose what the decision is (positive or negative) over the phone.
